Is there a demo on the site explaining how to download items from these sections? i.e. films etc

I want download stuff to my Onda 545HD movie player which accepts most formats. I use Limewire too but it seems quite limited in what you can access.

Any help would be appreciated!

Just paste the link into your web browser and press return.
Follow instructions and hit "free download" button (unless you have a premium account with this file host).
Save the file to your pc (remember where you save it to.)
Once all file parts have downloaded, right click on the .part1 file and use "extract here" function on WinRar software to rejoin the part files into 1 complete file (.avi, mpg, etc).
Check complete file plays ok, then delete the part files.

Hi mate,

Do you download one at a time? I downloaded the lot in one go and winrar came up with an error message? Not enough space in winrar?

I downloaded a sample to VLC player successfully but my portable media player wouldn't play the .mkv file. Can you download these files so they run as .avi for example so they will play on my ONDA?

Thanks,

Nakamichi

You can download more than 1 part at a time if you have a rapidshare download manager or equivalent software. All the movie files here should be an .avi output format when all the parts have been joined together.

ONDA media players use .mp4 file extension only. So any other file format will have to be converted first using some video conversion software.

Hi Fatman Wales,

Is there a tutorial on the site describing how you actually convert from one format to another. I've never managed to successfully do it using video converter etc. I need .AVIs for my ONDA which does in fact play this type of file,

Many thanks,

Nakamichi:laughing2

Don't think you will find a tut for this , since most conversion programs do it a bit differently. As well, mkv files require a special prigram for this.
Save your self the trouble and look for avi files to download
A good all round conversion prgram will be WinAvi...search the forum here you should find a copy....google mkv and you should find a conversion for these files...finally, search for Allok convertor, it will work just as well and has more options, if you really want to experiment...read well and good luck

Hi again,

When I try and extract the file it stops before finishing and a box comes up saying " next volume is required ", you need to have the following volume to continue extraction, it then asks me to insert a disk?

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Nakamichi

Did you get the files from here?
What is the extension used on these files?

that can be that you haven't download all the parts

Hi, no not from here but they are rapidshare .rar files and the same thing happened when I did use these site files. There are 5 files and I right clicked on each separately and they started to extract but then before completion I
get the not enough volume box!

When you right click it offers 3 alternatives right?

extact files
extract here
extract to ( folder for name of film to be downloaded )

Which one do you choose and then what?

Could the winrar I'm using be dodgy?

Thanks

its better to use a download manager for any files,i use flastget ofd which i click on the links for a film and then they are queued up,also they download at the full speed of my ips.
when you click on the first rar then they all download to give you a file in a folder at the enddownload all parts then click on the first rar file.

Hi all,

Thanks very much, I just got the files to work. I didn't realise you have to highlight ALL the parts first and then extract them as one file!! I was extracting each one separately.

I haven't managed to sample a hi def video yet though. Is there a good example on this site?

Thanks again,

Nakamichi

Normally all you need to do is just select the first one of the rar files and it should unzip the rest for you as it moves along.
HiDef means you will a proper player for this and the movie must be dl as HiDef as well..

Thanks guys,

One last question!

When you see a .rar file can you tell what format it will end up as once you've extracted all the files i.e. can you tell if it will be an .AVI or, as some seem to be, a .WMV for example? As my player will only play .AVIs
there's no point me downloading video which ends up being an WMV file or MKV,

I just downloaded a film called " Knowing " to my player from .rar to AVI and it looks fabulous. These ONDA players have very high 5 inch resolution screens so they play video excellently,

Thanks,

Nakamichi

Unless the file type name is in the string, no real why of telling the extension. Some uploaders always use the same file types so after a while, you can tell them apart and what they use.

Windows Media Video or WMV is a compressed video file format for several proprietary codecs developed by Microsoft. WMV was originally designed for Internet streaming applications, as a competitor to RealVideo.

AVI seeems to be the most common, but some use even smaller compression tools to make upload/download faster, thus mkv and the others.

Remember zip and rar are just compression techniques, so most downloaded files can be converted, if you have the right tools.

Thanks frenchgrape,

Useful info to know! Yes, I've had a go at converting formats but to be honest have never really been that good at pulling it off. I think you do lose some picture quality and most converters in my opinion look easy to use but once you start trying to use them are far from it.

If I could crack using just one I'd be very happy, many aren't free either.

Thanks again,

Thanks frenchgrape,

last thing, sometimes I do the " extract to " thing but at the end of the extraction there are still just winrar files in a folder but no newly created .avi file or .wmv.

Any ideas?

depending on the uploader, they may have created a second set of smaller rar files.....if so, then just run the process again, double click on the first new set of new files to extract again...you should end up with the avi file..
